Tim Rugg: Then and Now

So last night I'm riding at Hains, as my usual Thursday night routine goes. I noticed, though, that there were a ton of "regulars" giving their TT bikes some attention and disregarding the antics of the sprints group, including a friend and rival of mine named Tim Rugg in his Battley-Harley Davidson kit riding his 2009 Scott Plasma LTD.

Today, I have been perusing old photo albums from local bike races. (Before I raced every weekend myself, I'd just take pictures at races.) It is certainly a contrast, then, that I bring you the follow pair of pictures with Mr. Rugg's permission. These are from his first-ever bike race, the Category 5 Smithsburg Road Race in the 2008 Tour of Washington County.

The photos corroborate the legend. He did, in fact, finish the race in the top-10 on his infamous Scattante bike dressed in a V-neck t-shirt and swim trunks:

Love the socks, Tim.

Mr Tim
That's f'in classic. I think the moto official is calling the fashion police.

Awesome. Hairy legs, striped socks, V-neck T, and the Scattante. And who needs a chamois? Not when you have an iron taint. Even the motoref is staring in awe.

Yep. Seems to work for Rugg. Maybe he should come out with a clothing line.

He dropped me that day. I was shamed by the kid in the v-neck!

Hah! I just wish I had an old Schwinn Traveler or something at the time.
