Not so for the Cat 4 racers, who had to close out the day of racing at Dawg Days. By their time slot, the skies had dumped their worst on the Cat 1/2/3 field and it was - once again - a beautiful day for a bike race.
So I hung around to watch my boys race. I am glad I stayed, because they did not come to tweedle. As I sipped pineapple-flavored coconut water by the start/finish line, I took a bunch of pictures. Check out my Zenfolio page for more shots; they're uploading as I type this.
You missed an excellent race while on your drive home. Break after break threw down, and with about 8 laps to go, four men powered away after an attack from NCVC's Matt Rosier. With a 20-second gap, Nick Sachanda bridged to the breakaway - solo in one lap - and gave NCVC a 2-man advantage. On the backside, Paul Varga (DC Velo) attacked his break-mates on the hill. Rosier and Sachanda chased along with Matt Ringer from DVR. Varga could not match the counter attacks, so the rest is in the books.
Because the field was too busy tweedling in their dust, here's what they missed:

Former offensive lineman Nick smashed the downhill sprint - that is not much of a surprise.

Very close behind Nick, though, Rosier snagged the second step on the podium from Ringer, giving NCVC the 1-2 punch by millimeters.
If you're my friend on Facebook, you can check out the video of the 3-up sprint on my profile, but it's not that interesting compared to this last picture.

Impressive work by Nick to attack when he did.
I still think Ringer got second. I would have liked to see a protest and some video capture!
What happens if there is a tie?
A video (from the same angle) is on my facebook wall but it's harder to tell than the picture. I'd love to see a screenshot from the ref's tent too. I think the only time they've posted one is the Chuck Hutch vs. Neiters bike throw at Ft. Ritchie last year.
thanks rugg, i'm a big fan of your mustache by the way.
Nice race coverage. I was a pack "tweedler". NCVC definitely controlled the race. Congrats on a great race Nick.
I was tweedling on the Wednesday night Big Wheel bike shop ride also before I flatted out.
JayC - What kit were you in on Wednesday for the Arlington Hills? (I was there too.)
I had a blue discovery Channel jersey and my lung was hanging out of my mouth. I was hard to miss.
Mostly common sense, but an interesting read nonetheless:
